We don't know why Howard Stern sidekick Fred Norris decided to change the name lovingly given to him by his Latvian-born parents Henry and Valija Nukis. We think "Fred Leo Nukis" sounds just swell. Here's Fred's 1993 petition, filed in Civil Court in New York City, to "discard" his former name and replace it with his on-air handle. (Note: As part of the legal process, Fred had to place a small newspaper ad formally announcing his name change. But Stern fans could be excused for missing the legal notice, which Fred placed in the Amsterdam News, a Harlem-based black newspaper.) As a bonus, we've also included documentary proof that, contrary to Stern's repeated assertions, Fred was not hatched on Mars.
